828 citizens appear for public hearing on draft delimitation for PMC polls

The Pune civic body is currently under administrative rule as there have been no elections held after the end of previous term in 2022.

Only 828 applicants appeared for the public hearing that was held Friday on the draft delimitation for the forthcoming civic polls of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). A total of 5,922 suggestion and objections were filed for 41 electoral wards in the city.

“The two day public hearing ended today. It was carried out by designated officer V Radha. The report for the hearing will be submitted by the designated officer to state government soon,” municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said.

As per the state government, the PMC will have four-member electoral panels in 40 wards and a five-member panel in one ward.

Maximum applications were received from Narhe-Ambegaon and the least was from three wards — Shaniwar Peth Mahatma Phule Mandai, Deccan Gymkhana Happy Colony and Karvenagar Hingane Happy Colony.
The Narhe Ambegaon ward got the maximum with 2,066 applications, while Shaniwar Peth Mahatma Phule Mandai, Deccan Gymkhana Happy Colony and Karvenagar Hingane Happy Colony received no suggestion and objections.

Opposition parties Congress, NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) as well as partners of the ruling Mahayuti alliance NCP and Shiv Sena had alleged that the delimitation was done in a way that it favours the BJP.

The Pune civic body is currently under administrative rule as there have been no elections held after the end of previous term in 2022. The Supreme Court had directed the state government to hold elections as early as possible, following which the process for this was started by the state government.
