4,500 deputed to count the votes tomorrow

The district administration has deputed nearly 4,500 personnel for counting on May 16. After reviewing the preparations on Thursday,Collector Chandrakant Dalvi said that all necessary arrangements have been made for the counting day.

As the counting to all the four Lok Sabha constituencies — Pune,Maval,Baramati and Shirur — will be held at the Shivajinagar godown,the Collector said that 20 halls of the godown have been dedicated for the process.

“There will be 14 tables for each constituency. For about 7,000 counting agents of the party members,a partition has been made in the hall,” said Dalvi.

With the counting to kick off at 8 am,the service and postal ballot votes,too,will be simultaneously announced in the first round itself,said deputy election officer Varsha Untwal.

With 36 candidates,Pune,in all probability,may take 21 rounds and will be the last to finish while Baramati and Maval,with 17 candidates,will take about 23-24 rounds while Shirur is also expected to take 24 rounds,said Dalvi.

The election commission has introduced static observers for the constituencies. To keep the citizens updated on each round,a public address system will be put up at COEP ground,Agriculture College ground,SSPMS ground and parking facilities will be provided at these grounds as well,Dalvi said.

The election commission’s website,too,will be posting the updated results after each round,said Dalvi. A total of 6,957 EVMs have been used for the LS polls and nearly 30,26,700 votes have been polled.
