Nearly 45 people would be trained for implementing the Kranti Jyoti programme of the state election commission, said election commissioner Neela Satyanarayan at a workshop held on Tuesday,a day before the training programme takes off at Kirkitwadi in Haveli taluka.

Under the programme, the election commission will impart governance skills to 2,800 women gram panchayat members in 69 selected areas of the district. Funds of Rs 30 lakh have been allocated under the District Planning and Development Council for the training.

With 50 per cent reservation for women, the state government has made it imperative to hone their skills in governance. Of the 12,000 gram sabha members in the district,4,200 are women members.

The state election commission has also decided to postpone elections to the 219 gram panchayats in the district to November considering the drought-like condition in the district. The elections were earlier scheduled for October.
