The Pune police crime branch on Thursday arrested a gang of four history sheeters involved in several house break-ins. The police have recovered booty worth Rs 1 lakh from the accused Mahesh Shivaji Babar (31) of Satara,Lalit alias Pintya Khollam (22) of Bhosari,Jitu alias Jitendra Pillay (28) and Rahul Dhupkar (19) of Khed taluka.
Acting on a tip-off,a team of crime branch inspector Vijaysingh Gaikwad,assistant inspector Ashok Shelke,sub inspector Ashok Kamble,constables Rajendra Marne,Chandrakant Jagtap,Narendra Parkhi and Sanjay Gaikwad nabbed all four at Adinath Nagar in Bhosari.
The suspects have confessed to their involvement in 15 house break-in thefts in Pune and Satara, said Gaikwad.
The accused were produced before the court on Friday and have been remanded to police custody till June 3.
Earlier,the Kothrud police had arrested Babar and his brother Raju in connection with several thefts. Khollam,who was also arrested in June 2006 for allegedly committing 27 house break-ins,came in contact with the Babar brothers at Yerwada Central Prison. After being released in November last year,Khollam and Mahesh Babar formed a gang to carry out thefts and they used stolen cars for the purpose,the police said.
