35% marks minimum for science admission

In a move that will bring relief to thousands of junior college students seeking admission to science stream,education department Wednesday brought down the minimum percentage criteria from 40 to 35 per cent in science subjects.

In a move that will bring relief to thousands of junior college students seeking admission to science stream,education department Wednesday brought down the minimum percentage criteria from 40 to 35 per cent in science subjects. Students who have scored 40 per cent or less in class x science in the previous academic year will now get admission.

Almost 1,000 Class XII science students of Aurangabad division were in for a shock when it emerged they were admitted to science stream of Class XI without having secured 40 per cent in Class X science exam. They were later allowed to take the exam. After this Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education chairman Sarjerao Jadhav submitted a proposal with aforesaid options to the government this year.

Over 47,771 junior college admission forms were distributed by various centres on the first day of admission season on Wednesday. The distribution of forms for various streams are as follows: Science 22053,Bi Focal 5232,Commerce (Marathi medium) 12258,Commerce (English) 5701,Arts (English) 1094,Arts (Marathi) 1176 and Allowed To Keep Term (ATKT) 257.

The first day of form filling saw long queues in front of the junior colleges giving out admission forms. “I heard forms are different this time,which is why I came on the very first day. There was rush today but I managed to get the form,” said Prachi Deshmukh,a student who wants to pursue science.
