The anti-extortion cell of the Pune police crime branch has arrested two youths for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from an electrical equipment manufacturer by posing as members of the Chhota Rajan gang.
The suspects have been identified as Sagar Dhembare (21) alias Bhavdya,of Khadakwasla and Prasad Dhumal (23) of Warje.
The police said on July 24 the complainant received a call from an unidentified number asking him to keep Rs 5 lakh ready. Inspector Sachin Sawant said,”For the next two days, there was no call from that number and the number was switched off. On Tuesday, the complainant approached us. When we were taking down the complainant,he got a call from the same number. This time the caller demanded the money and also threatened to kill his family members, claiming they belonged to the Chhota Rajan gang.
The complainant was asked to come to a building in Khadakwasla. Meanwhile, the caller was traced to Uttamnagar in Shivane village. A trap was laid at the building and the two were nabbed early on Wednesday. Interestingly, the police said Dhembare threatened people by playing a dialogue from a Hindi action movie. Both of them have two cases registered against them at Kothrud and Warje police station.
Investigations till now have not revealed that the two have links with any established gang, said an officer.
