2 held for attack on ACB officer

The Swargate police have arrested two persons for allegedly attacking Bharat Bhosale,an inspector with the anti-corruption bureau on Monday.

The Swargate police have arrested two persons for allegedly attacking Bharat Bhosale,an inspector with the anti-corruption bureau on Monday.

The suspects have been identified as Deepak Kalgonda Patil (32) of Ekta Colony in Sangli and his accomplice Ganesh Vasant Wadekar (31) from Malojinagar in Phaltan tehsil of Satara district.

Suryakant Kamble,police inspector (crime) from Swargate police station said Patil has 19 body offenses against him,including three cases of murder. He works as a recovery agent for a credit society in Sangli. He is also a real-estate agent. Kamble said,“Bhosale was posted in Sangli in 1998 and had arrested Patil in case for criminal assault. Patil told us that he was beaten and abused. He wanted to take revenge.”

Recently,Patil was acquitted in some of the cases against him. He found out that Bhosale was in Pune. Kamble said,“Patil contacted Bhosale posing as a journalist. He came to Pune from Sangli on Monday and remained in touch with Bhosale. In the evening they decided to meet on Tilak Road. Bhosale was attacked around 6.30 pm.”

Bhosale suffered injuries on his head and back. He tried chase the duo but could not do so owing to vehicular traffic. He was later admitted to a private hospital near Sarasbag. Kamble said,“The suspects were arrested from a sugarcane field near Sangli city. They were traced based on tip off from informants. Bhosale was on leave for his daughter’s marriage when he was attacked. That helped the suspects as he did not call them to meet in his office.”
