Arun Jawir (30) always wanted to work with an IT firm. But,due to physical disability,he thought his wish would never come true. On Friday,his dreams turned into reality,and so did the wish of 144 other physically challenged students,who secured jobs with various IT and non-IT companies across Pune. A two-day job fair was organised by Kamayani Prashikshan and Sanshodhan society in collaboration with Sarthak Educational Trust,New Delhi,on August 29 and 30.
There were 429 applicants,of which 145 got placed. As many 15 companies,including Infosys,Wipro,Chroma and Vishal Mega,participated in the fair,said Kalidas Supate,manager of Kamayani Udyog Kendra.
IT companies hired a majority of the applicants,with Infosys selecting 26 candidates. The average pay package offered by the firms was Rs 10,000. Most of the students will receive on-the-job training, Supate said.
He added that there were two categories at the fair – physical disability and hearing impaired. For physical disability,12th pass was the minimum criteria,while for hearing impaired,10th pass was the basic requirement.
I am awaiting my final year BCom examination results. I always wanted an IT job,but could never secure one due to my orthopedic handicap. But,due to this job fair,I got placed with one of the leading IT companies in the city. I will now earn Rs 10,000 per month, said Arun Jawir,who hails from Solapur.
This was the second fair organised by the society. Last year,out of 1,000 candidates,420 had cleared the screening test. As many as 104 students were employed.
Applicants from Dhule,Aurangabad and Nashik attended the fair. Such platforms are very helpful for students, said Supate.
Vodafone to conduct drive for visually impaired
Telecom company Vodafone has approached Kamayani Prashikshan and Sanshodhan society to conduct a placement fair for visually-impaired students on Tuesday. Vodafone will visit our organisation to conduct a drive for the visually impaired. The eligibility criteria is graduation in any subject. The registration will begin at 9:30 am at Kamayani school, said Kalidas Supate.
