Meghalaya scored a crushing 10-1 win over Uttar Pradesh to become the first team to enter the semifinals of the Coca-Cola u-15 sub-junior national football championship 2013 organised by the Pune District Football Association (PDFA). The tournament is being played at the DSK ground in Loni.
In the Group C match,Resan Malngiang was in an unstoppable form as he seemed to score almost at will. Malngiang fired in goals in the fifth,ninth,44th and the 78th minutes. Precise finishing and dangerous movement in the Uttar Pradesh half were hallmarks of Malngiangs play on a day nothing could go wrong for him.
Malngiangs strike partner Jefferson was also in prime form as he netted four goals. Jeffersons nifty dribbling was too much for the UP defence to handle. The striker scored in the 38th,55th,83rd and 85th minutes. Midfielder Kostarlan scored off a free kick in the 80th minute while Barman Roy sealed the rout as he dispatched an 88th-minute penalty to score Meghalayas 10th goal.
In another Group C match,Jharkhand scored a 4-1 win over Kerala. Karan Roy scored a hat-trick netting the ball in the 18th,50th and 91st minutes.
The win gave Jharkhand seven points, the same as Meghalaya. But Meghalayas goal difference saw them make it to the last four stage pipping the unlucky Jharkhand outfit.
In the last Group D encounter, hosts Maharashtra will take on group toppers Orissa, while Tamil Nadu will take on Punjab. Orissa look the favorites to make it to the last four stage from the group having scored two wins on the trot.
