Bihar: 18 IPS among 19 police officers reshuffled, Patna gets new SSP, City SPs

The Bihar government Saturday ordered a major reshuffle of senior police officials, transferring 18 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and one Bihar Police Service (BPS) officer, and revamping Patna’s police leadership.

The state Home Department transfer order, issued on June 14, comes at a time when cities like Patna and Mzaffarpur are witnessing a series of serious crimes, including several shooting, murder and rape incidents.

Kartikeya K Sharma, a 2014-batch officer, who held the post of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Purnia, is appointed as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patna, replacing Awakash Kumar (2012 batch), who has been moved to Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP)-1 in Patna.

Chandrashekhar Prasad Vidyarthi, a 2014-batch officer serving as SP in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), was given the role of SP (Law & Order) in Patna.

Patna’s police structure sees further changes with three 2021-batch IPS officers working as Sub-Divisional Police Officers/Assistant Superintendents of Police being promoted to city SPs.

Diksha was stepped up from ASP (Town) to City SP (Central), succeeding Sweety Sehrawat, a 2020-batch officer, who takes over as SP Purnia.

Bhanu Pratap Singh shifts from ASP Danapur to City SP (West), while Parichay Kumar from ASP (Sadar) Ara to City SP (East).

The outgoing City SPs of East and West Patna, K Ramdas (a 2019-batch officer) and Sarath R S (a 2020-batch officer), head to the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir as SP-cum-Assistant Director and to Supaul as SP, respectively.

The reshuffle has also affected several other districts and departments.

In Muzaffarpur, Kota Kiran Kumar (a 2021-batch officer) previously ASP Dehri in Rohtas takes over as City SP, replacing Vishwajeet Dayal, a 2017-batch officer, now assigned as SP Jamui.

Rajesh Kumar Singh Prabhakar, a BPS officer from the 2009 batch, shifts from Assistant Inspector General (Modernisation) in Patna to SP (Rural) in Muzaffarpur. Prabhakar replaced Vidya Sagar, a 2016-batch IPS officer, who has been moved to SP of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) in Patna.

Meanwhile, three more district SPs were transferred to various departments in Patna.

Shaishav Yadav, a 2016-batch officer from Supaul, becomes Assistant Inspector General (Modernisation), while Madan Kumar Anand, a 2018-batch officer from Jamui, is appointed SP of the Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission. Ashok Mishra, a 2016-batch officer and former SP Samastipur, takes up the SP Special Branch role.

Vineet Kumar, a 2017-batch officer, transitions from SP Special Branch in Patna to SP Jehanabad, taking charge from Arvind Pratap Singh, a 2018-batch officer, who takes over as SP Samastipur.
