Youths get 10-yr RI for rape

Five youths,in their twenties,were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old in September 2008.

Additional sessions judge S Y Kulkarni convicted Pradeep Thakhur (20),Kishore Narkar (22),Sandeep Gupta (21),Sidesh Chouhan (26) and Prasad Gaware (27) on rape charge and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each. The conviction was based on the testimony of the victim.

According to the Dadar police,the victim on September 11,2008,visited Lalbaughcha Raja after which she was raped at one of the youths residence.

During the trial,the prosecution examined 14 witnesses,including the victim who identified the accused,and the doctors who had examined the victim and concluded that she was sexually assaulted. Though the defence lawyers argued that it was with consent,the court rejected the plea.
