The police on Monday said that a one-sided love affair may have been the motive behind the murder of Sonal Borkhataria, the 26-year-old woman who was found strangled to death on Wednesday in a drain at Kasarvadavali.
We have reasons to believe that the motive of the murder could have been a one-sided love affair. However,we cannot say anything as of now with certainty as the investigation is still going on, said a police official on condition on anonymity.
Senior Police inspector Sagar Salunkhe of the Kasarwadavli police station said,The medical reports show that there is no evidence of sexual assault and strangulation was the cause of death. We are interrogating her colleagues at the Siddharth Banquet Hall at Andheri where she used to work as a receptionist. Asked about the claims of Aruna,Sonals mother, that she was being harassed by her colleagues and one of them might be responsible for the murder,Salunkhe said,So far we have learnt that the quarrels were work-related. The only thing was that Sonal would tell her mother about everything that happened in the office. However,we have not given a clean chit to all the employees and are interrogating them.
When contacted,a senior staffer at the banquet hall said,We have given our statement to the police and would not like to comment further. She was gem of a person and our office has no role to play in her murder.
Sonal, who stayed with her parents and younger brother Vikas at Eksar in Borivali, had left her house at 9 am on Wednesday. Later in the day, when an office colleague had called her family members to enquire as to why Sonal had not come to the office, the worried parents filed a missing persons complaint with the Borivali police. The next day,Vikas got a call from the Kasarwadavli police station. The police informed him about the discovery of Sonals body in a drain at Kasarwadavli.
