The tender for the much-awaited Chinchpokali station revamp is likely to be floated by the mid of this month. A senior official confirmed the development, and said that once the construction is over, the station will resemble a modern Metro station.
The proposed station revamp will generate 600 square metres of space for commercial use at the roof of the station deck. The rooftop amenities will come at a height of nine metres from track level, giving a panoramic view of Mumbai‘s skyline.
The existing platform, which is 270 metres long X 8 metres wide, will have an elevated deck for passengers while space on the roof of the deck will be used for commercial purpose.
Interestingly, the existing pedestrian pavement on the road overbridge will also be expanded giving much more space for movement of passengers alighting at station. Additionally, at the time of Ganeshotsav, the expanded foot overbridge will also be useful for devotees to take a glimpse of large idols passing by, including the popular Lalbaughcha Raja. Currently, the public gather on the ROB.
The deck will be connected to the platform through escalators for entry and exit. Whereas, the commercial rooftop space on deck is likely to be rented out to cafes and restaurants considering the area is surrounded by big corporate offices.
