What they said

I was contesting this election not only against Shiv Sena’s Subhash Desai, who is a resident of my ward, but also against NCPs Sharad Rao who had wanted the seat for his son. Although it seems that I have failed to convice the voters to vote for me,I feel that on the whole Congress needs to understand that the Sena has done well as they have a strong network and also their women wing is very active. A trend of favouritism — in which some senior leaders give tickets to party workers as a reward for their help rather than giving tickets to deserving candidates — has developed in the Congress.

Sameer Desai

Outgoing Congress corporator

I really felt that I could convince the new electorate but Chheda got more time to touch base with this new ward after his defection and I merely got 20 days’ time. I accept it as my defeat in a fair competition. I don’t know if the language factor worked in favour of Chheda but I accept my defeat nevertheless.

Bhalchandra Shirsat

Outgoing BJP corporator from Ghatkopar who lost to BJP rebel Pravin Chheda

The reason why Shiv Sena could do well was because the party has genuinely done some good development work while the Congress kept on harping the anti-Shiv Sena and anti-corruption mantra. The Congress has not really done any development work for the city.

Shubha Raul

Shiv Sena corporator who won in ward 7

The performance of the MNS has been exceptional but I still feel some more seats could have been won by us if the party workers had given their hundred per cent.

Mangesh Sangle

MNS MLA from Vikhroli
