Waterlogging on tracks disrupts train services

The unrelenting downpour badly hit local train services on Monday,particularly on the Central and Harbour lines as services had to be temporarily suspended due to waterlogging on the tracks. This was the second time this year that services on the Central line were suspended.

Services on the main line of CR were suspended for four hours on Monday,the same duration for which they were hit between Kurla and CST in July. A record 630 local trains were cancelled on Monday and even after the services resumed in the evening,they were delayed by 20-25 minutes.

The heavy rain also affected outstation trains. Ten express trains were cancelled,eight express/passenger trains were short terminated of which four were run from the short terminated destinations as special trains. One special suburban train was run from Dadar to Diva for the passengers of 50103 Dadar-Ratnagiri Passenger. Besides,eight express trains were rescheduled.

On the suburban route of CR,heavy downpour resulted in waterlogging at Sion-Kurla and Chunabhatti from 6.05 am.

A CR official said,From 6.30 am to 10.30 am,services were suspended between CST and Thane and from CST to Mankhurd. Later,some trains were run and around 12 noon,the number of trains were increased as water receded. Shuttle services were also being run. Trains were running between CST and Andheri on Harbour route. Around 3.30 pm,services were restored on the Harbour line. CRs Chief PRO V Malegaonkar said,We are increasing the number of trains gradually. Now,trains are running 15 to 25 minutes late but services will be normal shortly.

There was no waterlogging on the suburban section on Monday,so there was no delay, said Nitin Devid,PRO,WR.
