18-hr water cut in Andheri East, West wards from Thursday
Water stock in lakes touches 98% but BMC to replace valves in pipelines

Although the average water stock in all the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai touched 98% on Wednesday, two municipal wards covering Andheri East and Andheri West in the western suburbs will have to bear with water cuts for 18 hours between September 19 and 20.
According to civic authorities, the BMC will replace four pipeline valves from the Versova outlet of the Veravalli reservoir. The valves, each with a diameter of 750 mm, have corroded and need to be replaced. “There will be water cuts in the K/East and K/West wards which cover Andheri East, Andheri West, Jogeshwari, Ville Parle, Juhu and and Versova areas,” said the BMC’s statement.
Work to replace the valves will begin at 8 pm on September 19 and continue till 2 pm on September 20. Civic officials urged residents to boil water before drinking for at least five days after the valves have been replaced.
“Four valves installed in the Veravalli reservoir will be replaced. Water supply will be stalled for a day, as the process of replacing the valves will involve opening of the shafts that may result in leakage of water from the pipeline if supply is not suspended,” said the BMC’s statement.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s water stock in all the seven lakes stood at 98.64% on Wednesday, the highest in three years. Last year, Mumbai’s water stock in the seven lakes stood at 97.31% on September 18, while in 2022, the water stock stood at 98.52%.
Out of the seven lakes, Tulsi and Vihar lakes are at full capacity at 100%, Followed by 99.76% in Modak Sagar lake and 98.94% in Upper Vaitarna lake. The water stock in Bhatsa lake currently stand at 98.47%, followed by 98.35% in middle Vaitarna lake, and 98.08% in Tansa lake.
