Vital data lost in Intellectual Property office fire

The Government of India’s Intellectual Property office in Antop Hill caught fire on Monday afternoon gutting important documents and damaging computers.

The Government of India’s Intellectual Property office in Antop Hill caught fire on Monday afternoon gutting important documents and damaging computers.

Though no injuries and major losses were recorded,officials said that important data,papers and files have been lost in the blaze.

Fire broke in the office of the Controller General,Patents,Designs and Trade Marks (pay and accounts department) at around 1.30 pm in the afternoon at Boudhik Sampada Bhavan on Sheikh Mistry Road at Antop Hill.

Chief Fire Officer P Karguppikar said the cause of the fire was being investigated. “It was a small fire and we were able to bring it under control within 30 minutes. However,furniture,papers and computers have been gutted in the fire,” he said.

Four fire engines were used to douse the fire. Senior Police Inspector V Deokar from the Antop Hill police station said that an accident report has been filed and investigations are on with regard to the cause of fire.
