Vinayak Mete disqualified as MLC

Mete’s term as MLC was to expire on July 7, 2016.

Former NCP leader Vinayak Mete has been disqualified as a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council under the anti-defection law.

Mete, elected MLC from the NCP, later fell out with the party and received a show-cause notice. He contested the October 15 Assembly polls from Beed on a BJP ticket.

Principal Secretary (State Legislature) Anant Kalse said Mete had been disqualified with effect from October 13.

Mete’s term as MLC was to expire on July 7, 2016. Kalse said it would have no bearing on Mete’s candidacy for Assembly polls.

The notice for disqualification was given by NCP after Mete criticised party leader and the then PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal earlier this year over shoddy construction work at Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi.
