The harsh reality that the transition from the junior ranks into the seniors is a huge leap, was amply demonstrated in the qualifying rounds of the Tata Open India International Challenge 2011,organised by the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, and hosted by the NSCI,here,on Monday.
Indias No. 1 junior player,Sameer Verma and No. 4 Shubhanker Dey,winner of the recently concluded Junior Masters, failed to make the main draw here, losing to Akshit Mahajan and Rohit Yadav respectively.
In another interesting match of contrasting styles,Indonesias Dharma Alrie Guna got the better of Indias Srujan Nandaluri 21-14,17-21,21-11. Using his jump smashes to telling effect,Guna quelled the delicate touches of Nandaluri to make the main draw.
