The United States Consulate General office in Mumbai has received a threat call from an unknown person on Saturday threatening to blow up the consulate.
The unknown caller called on the landline of the consulate on Saturday morning, with bomb threats, police sources said.
Police personnel, along with dog squad, searched the premises of the consulate, but nothing suspicious was found. Police later declared the call as a hoax.
Confirming the development, Zonal DCP Manish Kalwaniya said a case has been registered at the Bandra Kurla Complex police station under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita and efforts are being put in to locate the caller. The city crime branch is also looking into the matter.
In May last week, the city police control room received a threat call in which the caller threatened to blow up the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. However, later the threat was found to be a hoax, and when the man behind the call was nabbed, it was revealed that he made the hoax call out of frustration after having a fight with his wife.
