Admissions to UG, PG medical courses to be completely online
The move has been welcomed by parents, as according to them now colleges will not get to allot seats and all seats will be filled under the centralised system.

Now, medical admissions for undergraduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) courses, under the stray vacancy rounds, will now be completely online. The National Medical Commission (NMC) on Monday issued a notification regarding this which is expected to control malpractices happening during admissions at institute levels, according to experts.
The notification issued by NMC states, “The Medical Council Committee (MCC) shall conduct online counselling for stray vacancy round for 100 percent seats in deemed universities in UG and PG courses.”
It continued, “All state counselling agencies are requested to make necessary arrangements for conducting the counselling round online, for all rounds, including the stray vacancy round in private medical colleges from the academic year 2023-24. No college or institute should conduct counselling, including stray vacancy round, in physical mode. It will help in tackling the issue of seat blocking and related complaints, as well as court cases related to counselling.”
The move has been welcomed by parents, as according to them now colleges will not get to allot seats and all seats will be filled under the centralised system. MCC will conduct these admissions at the centralised level and state authorities will conduct this process at state level. In case of Maharashtra, Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell will conduct these admissions online.
A parent, Brijesh Sutaria, said, “This is a very good move. It will not just put an end to malpractices, but also provide low scoring students with a valuable chance to bag a seat until the last round.” According to parents, in the stray vacancy round, when seats were being filled at institute levels, malpractices at colleges included blocking of seats by asking money.
