In a counter move to BJP for sending delayed invitation for Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya on January 22, Sena UBT president Uddhav Thackeray along with his family members and party leaders on Monday performed puja at Kala Ram Mandir in Nashik and performed Maha Aarti at Godavari river bank of Nashik where Lord Ram is believed to have stayed during his exile from Ayodhya.

Donning saffron clothes and a Rudraksha garland like his late father and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, Uddhav along with his wife Rashmi, sons Aaditya and Tejas also performed Maha Aarti in the Kalaram Temple which has a historical significance. It was here that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Marathi social activist Sane Guruji in 1930 led an agitation to give Dalits access to temples.

After not being invited to Ayodhya, Uddhav had announced that he would be visiting the Kalaram Mandir where he would be performing Puja and later would be performing a Maha Aarti at Ramkund, the banks of Godavri river in Nashik. Dozens of Shiv Sainiks who had participated in the Kar Seva in 1992 also participated in the Maha Aarti at Godavari river bank.

On January 23, the birth anniversary of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has organised an open camp as well as party’s executive meeting in Nashik and Uddhav would be sounding a poll bugle by holding a public rally in Nashik’s Golf Club ground in the evening.
