Two held for thefts in Dharavi

Two men were arrested by Unit 5 of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch for allegedly breaking into houses in Dharavi.

Two men were arrested by Unit 5 of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch for allegedly breaking into houses in Dharavi. The duo told the police that they were responsible for six house break-ins in Dharavi. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Irshad Shaikh and Phurkhan Inamuddin Shaikh.

According to the police,the accused would keep an eye on buildings under the pretext of catching pigeons.

“We were probing a theft case near PMGP Colony in Dharavi when we spotted the accused nearby. They were splurging on goods they could not possibly afford. So we decided to keep a watch on them,” said a Crime Branch officer,who did not wish to be named.

He added,“They would visit housing societies on the pretext of catching pigeons. They would then do a recce of the entire place and strike at night. They have confessed to the crime,” the officer said.
