Two police officers from Charkop police station were suspended on Monday following alleged lapses in a property dispute case on September 18.
The police officers, identified as Assistant Police Inspector Anil Sonawane and Police Inspector Vijay Holkar, were suspended following a month-long inquiry after the owner of the shop opposite the police station filed a complaint.
According to Ramrao Pawar,Additional Commissioner of Police (North region),last month a few people including accused Harish Shetty had allegedly barged into Strene Sports,a shop in Charkop,Kandivali (West) and ransacked it.
The owner of the shop identified as Leena Oz had then approached the police station to lodge a complaint, but the two police officers refused to do so.
Leena who stays above the shop said,I own three shops beneath my flat which I have given on rent. In September, more than 50 people barged into the shop and ransacked it. They then took over my property by presenting fake documents. The chaat stall owner approached me and informed me about the damage, following which I rushed to the police station to lodge a complaint. However, even after 12 hours, the police officers refused to register the complaint. They also asked for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. But inspite of giving them the money, they did not register my complaint, said Leena.
I then approached the higher authorities and managed to get the officers to file the first information report. However, the police officers did not investigate the case and arrest Shetty, added Leena.
After waiting for a few days Leena approached the Home Minister, who ordered an inquiry into the case.
There were a few lapses in the discharge of duties by the police officers, based on which they have been suspended, said Pawar.
The officers have been suspended until the entire inquiry in the case is completed, added Pawar.
