Two BMC engineers caught accepting Rs 8 lakh bribe for allowing shed on building terrace
When one of the owners went to the BMC to meet the officials in connection with the complaint, they demanded Rs 20 lakh bribe from him.

TWO BMC engineers along with a private person, who were allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 20 lakh for approving a shed built on the terrace of a building in south Mumbai, were trapped by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday.
An officer said the two government servants from the building and factories department of the BMC, identified as junior engineer Mangesh Varshe (37), and a sub engineer Suraj Pawar (43), along with a private person Nilesh Hodar, were placed under arrest.
As per the complaint given by one of the partners that owned the five-storeyed building in south Mumbai, one of the tenants occupying the fifth floor had built a shed on the terrace during monsoon. Following this, they received a notice of eviction from the BMC for the unauthorised construction.
When one of the owners went to the BMC to meet the officials in connection with the complaint, they demanded Rs 20 lakh bribe from him. They demanded Rs 15 lakh for the shed built on the terrace while five lakh for some illegal construction on the fifth floor.
Since the complainant did not want to pay the bribe, he contacted the ACB, following which the complaint was verified and found to be true. The ACB then instructed the complainant to agree to pay the initial payment of Rs 8 lakh on Friday. When the two engineers sent Hodar to collect the payment, they were caught red handed by the ACB officials. He led the police to the two engineers.
The trio were later placed under arrest and produced before the court on Saturday.
