A constable of the Chembur police station has been accused of assaulting a trader at the behest of his brother who had fought with the latter. The Nehru Nagar police have sent a report of the incident to the zonal deputy commissioner of police and the policeman may face a departmental inquiry, said sources.
The trader also alleged that constable Kishore Vichare threatened to book him.
The alleged incident happened on Thursday when a shoe stall owner,Irfan Sheikh (26),was returning home. On the way,he stopped to admire a motorbike parked on a side of the road. It reportedly belonged to his friend. But a man called Milind Vichare alleged that Sheikh wanted to steal the vehicle and had a verbal duel with him. Following this,Vichare and his friends allegedly thrashed Sheikh. He later called up his elder brother constable Kishore Vichare,a driver of a combat vehicle that patrols Chembur and Nehru Nagar, said senior inspector Prakash Kale of Nehru Nagar police station.
He had then allegedly taken Sheikh to the Nehru Nagar police station. We have submitted a report on the incident to the DCP. It mentioned the misuse of the combat vehicle and Vichares alleged high handedness. We are yet to be notified on what action will be taken against him, said Kale.
