Sadavarte has been opposing the demand for Maratha reservation. The Mumbai Police has arrested three persons for allegedly vandalising vehicles belonging to lawyer opposed to Maratha reservation, Gunaratna Sadavarte, early on Thursday. The police said the fourth accused, who managed to escape from the spot, was video recording the act and broadcasting it on Facebook live.
The police said the incident took place outside Sadavarte’s residence in Parel at around 6.30 am. Subsequently, the Bhoiwada police were informed after Sadavarte came to know that his vehicles were vandalised.
Confirming the development, a senior police officer said, “Sadavarte has police protection and the personnel who were standing downstairs saw the suspects vandalising Sadavarte’s two vehicles with sticks following which the three suspects identified as Mangesh Sabale, Vasant Bansode and Raju Sathe were apprehended. They were caught on the spot while the fourth accused, who was doing a Facebook live, escaped.”
“We then lodged a complaint and arrested three persons. The three persons were produced before court in the afternoon and were bailed out.” The police said the three accused are from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) and have been fighting for Maratha reservation.
Sadavarte has been opposing the demand for Maratha reservation. Speaking with reporters after the incident, Sadavarte said, “I will fight for the rights of the open category students till the last blood in my veins. I will not let the country be divided over caste”.
