Concerned over the rising number of complaints about halted development works in the city, the Mohali mayor has written to the Municipal Commissioner, directing that all projects approved in various Finance and Contract Committee (FNCC) meetings where tenders are completed and work orders already issued must begin within one week.

The mayor has warned that “if the firms/contractors fail to start work within the given period, a resolution to blacklist them will be placed in the next House meeting”.

In the letter, the mayor noted that both residents and councillors have repeatedly reported that several works have not started on the ground despite work orders being in place. Citizens are reportedly frustrated that even after tenders, estimates and budgets were sanctioned, development projects are being delayed for unexplained reasons, raising concerns about the municipal body’s functioning and administrative sensitivity.

Work orders for major projects such as park development and repair, installation of paver blocks, kerb and channel repair, routine road maintenance, construction of yoga sheds, and dharamshala buildings were issued on March 20, 2025. Still, many sites show no activity, prompting the mayor to categorise the issue as “extremely urgent” and seek immediate action.

Administrative officials confirmed that the mayor’s letter has also been forwarded to the chief engineer. Now the next seven days will be crucial. Either contractors begin work or the next House meeting may see stringent action, including blacklisting.
