Three held for murder of photojournalist

According to Police, the deceased was found breathing when police first found him in Cheda Nagar area.

The Mumbai police arrested three persons on Saturday afternoon for allegedly murdering a freelance photojournalist at a construction site in Chembur late on Wednesday night.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sameer Rohikar (33), Rohit Bangera (19) and George Fernandes (30). Rohikar resided in the same locality as the victim in Tardeo and was acquaintances with him, police said.

Officers have also said that the deceased, Prasad Mandoakar (25), a freelance photojournalist was found breathing when the police first found him in Chembur’s Cheda Nagar area the same night at around 11 pm.

“He could not speak but could move his eyes. He had sustained deep cuts to his throat from a sharp object and there were evident blows to his head. He succumbed to his injuries soon after he was admitted to a nearby government hospital early on Thursday morning,” said a police officer.

According to the police, as Mandoakar was found without his wallet and phone, the police found it hard to identify. Police said that after receiving tip-off regarding the trio’s whereabouts, the police laid a trap and arrested the three accused on Saturday afternoon in South Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital area.

“Rohikar told us that he had plotted to kill the victim as he was having an illicit affair with his partner,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner of police.
