Three held for hacking MP’s email id, demanding money
The police had found that one of the email recipients had also made a transfer of Rs 70,000, which was recovered by police.
The accused have been identified as Autra Golhoud, Okpeo Michael and Konate Mohammad.
The BKC Cyber Police arrested three people from Delhi on Friday, for allegedly hacking the email address of Rajya Sabha MP, Hussain Dalwai, and sending e-mails to several people seeking money. Dalwai had approached the cyber police in September last week and registered an FIR. The police had found that one of the email recipients had also made a transfer of Rs 70,000, which was recovered by police.
Soon after an FIR was registered, DCP (Cyber), Akbar Pathan, formed a team under Senior Inspector, Ravi Sardesai, to probe into the matter. During the course of investigation, the police found that the fake e-mail address was created in Delhi and sent a team there.
“Based on the Internet Protocol address, we tracked down the place from where the fake email had been created and arrested three African nationals in connection with the same,” an officer said. The police also recovered the Rs 70,000 that had been paid by an acquaintance, who believed the email had been sent by the Rajya Sabha MP.
The police also found several SIM cards from the residence of the accused. “We obtained a transit remand of the accused from Delhi and produced them before the local court that remanded them in police custody till November 2.”
The accused have been identified as Autra Golhoud, Okpeo Michael and Konate Mohammad.
“The accused randomly sent email address with links that install virus in the computer of the person who clicks on it. Even in the case of the MP, someone may have clicked on the link sent by the accused,” an officer said.
