After its successful debut at the India Art Fair 2024 in Delhi, “Threaded Visions: Contemporary Embroidery For A Sustainable Future” by Milaaya Embroideries by Gayatri Khanna is set to captivate Mumbai audiences. The exhibition showcases masterpieces inspired by renowned modern and contemporary artists like S H Raza, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Nilima Sheikh, and K K Hebbar, meticulously interpreted through couture embroidery. Highlighting a diverse range of techniques including aari, zardozi, satin stitch, phulkari, Kutch embroidery, kantha stitch, and French knots, the artworks celebrate India’s rich tradition of craftsmanship while hoping to offer a profound commentary on sustainability and climate change.

2. Under the spotlight: Anti-caste narratives and designs
Since 2020, Panther’s Paw Publications (PPP) and design studio November have garnered attention for their innovative collaborations. PPP, focused on publishing Dalit-Bahujan literature, allowed for design risks not common in larger publishing houses. This partnership produced bold projects, like a book with no typography on the cover, resonating strongly with audiences. Founder Yogesh Maitreya’s memoir “Water in a Broken Pot” further propelled PPP into mainstream recognition, all designed by November. In an upcoming discussion, Maitreya and November co-founder Shiva Nallaperumal will explore their collaborative journey, delving into graphic design, typography, and the visual culture of the anti-caste movement.

3. Combating cyberbullying through art
The Maharashtra Government’s Cyber Crime Branch and The Designera art gallery, present “Brush of Hope,” a pioneering art exhibition addressing the menace of cyberbullying. Through a powerful display of artworks, the exhibition seeks to spark dialogue and empower victims by highlighting themes of resilience and empathy. Honouring the memory of Swara, a victim of cyberbullying, the exhibition curated by her aunt Dr Sheetal Gagrani prominently features her poignant art pieces.

5. Red Lorry Film Festival

6. ‘The अन’ by Jesh Krishna Murthy
Khotachiwadi-based art gallery 47 A presents ‘The An (अन)’ by Jesh Krishna Murthy, showcasing the simplicity and possibilities that can emerge when we begin to keep RnD and manufacturing easy, intuitive and safe for the Earth. In his practice, he has radically gone back to our history, our wondrous civilizations, and formed an insightful think tank of brilliant local artists, scientists, and our very own artisans from all over the world. With this show, he presents materials that have been extensively researched and have low carbon footprints. On display would be the art of bowls, jewellery, iPad covers, lamps, temple art and many such items that are sustainable in nature.

7. Purane Chawal: Sumeet Vyas’s contemporary take on ‘The Sunshine Boys’
Set in contemporary Mumbai, this Hindi adaptation of Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys” titled “Purane Chawal” explores the lives of two retired comedy legends. They reunite after 12 years to perform their iconic act at the country’s largest comedy festival. However, there’s a catch: they can’t stand each other. Directed by Sumeet Vyas and starring Kumud Mishra, Shubhrajyoti Barat, and Ayesha Raza, the play questions whether they can overcome their differences and recreate the magic.

8. Sarika Bajaj presents “Requiem”
Sarika Bajaj presents her solo show titled “Requiem”. A collection of sensorial and tactile multi-media art works, the exhibition delves into the environmental threats faced by bird species in today’s urbanised world. Drawing on the rich symbolism of feathers in global cultures, she employs labour-intensive techniques to imbue her works with layers of meaning, reflecting birds’ significance in mythology and Indigenous rituals worldwide.

9. Lorenzo Viturri presents “Metamorphosis”
