Designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil will create a fun range of kidswear

After establishing themselves as master couturiers in the dian fashion industry, designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra are now embracing the child in them. The two have designed an eclectic range of clothes for 30 children who will be flown to Disneyland,Hong Kong,as part of Disney Channel’s Jet Set 2 campaign. “We have always wanted to design clothes for children, especially now that both of us have kids of our own. It’s an interesting idea,” says Nikhil.

Those used to watching models and celebrities in blingy and heavy Shantanu-Nikhil drapes will be in for a pleasant surprise when this kids’ collection will be unveiled on June 17 in Mumbai. From umbrella skirts, dresses and printed leggings for girls to shorts,trousers,t-shirts and jackets for boys, the Disney collection spells comfort and happiness. The colour palette promises to be fun with fluorescents dominating the range that’s targeted at children above the age of six.

“The Disney family is really big — be it Donald Duck, all the Disney princesses or Goofy and many others — it’s difficult for us as designers to fit in all characters. So,we have zeroed in on Mickey and Minnie Mouse as our muses for this range,” explains Nikhil. Cutesy bows, ears, ties and caps that the two most popular Disney characters adorn have been included in the duo’s collection, lending it an exciting feel.

While it seems the two have it in them to create an adorable line of clothes for children, one will have to wait a few years to get access to an elaborate kids’ line created by them. “Kidswear is a different ballgame altogether and it requires us to be fully committed to it. Eventually,we will get into it,but not now — maybe a few years later,” says Nikhil.
