A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Thane late on Monday. The woman,Dhanashree Bagal, left behind a mysterious suicide note in which she had struck out everything she had written except for a line saying that she did not want to get married. This which has further foxed police as her parents claimed that they had not fixed her marriage yet.
Dhanashree,a resident of the Ratnabai Compound in Kisan Nagar, worked at a mall in Thane, police said. She was alone at her residence on Monday night. Her parents had gone to their native place to attend a wedding. One of her neighbours happened to glance through the window of her single storey house and saw that she had hanged herself, said sub-inspector Kishore Tawde,Srinagar police station. The neighbour raised an alarm and called the police.
Police said that a single-page suicide note written in Marathi was found in the house. The first line said,Aai,mala lagna karaicha nahi (Mother,I dont want to marry).
The rest of the note had been struck out. We have not been able to make out what was written. The possibility of someone having tampered with the note is remote as Dhanashree was alone in the house and the door was locked from inside. We will send the note for forensic analysis, Tawde said.
Dhanashrees parents said the note was a puzzle to them as well. We had not even mentioned the subject of marriage to her lately. We have no idea what her suicide or the note means, Dhanashrees father Anandrao told Newsline.
The police have ruled out foul play. They will record the family members statements after Dhanashrees last rites have been performed.
