Thakre played mischief in Sangli: Patil

Minister for rural development Jayant Patil Friday held alliance partner Congress responsible for the NCP defeat in Sangli municipal polls. He said,State Congress president Manikrao Thakre played mischief by saying I met Sonia Gandhi to confuse voters.

Home minister R R Patil,who hails from Sangli,is likely to submit a report on the defeat but state NCP chief Bhaskar Jadhav suggested all other political parties united against his.

NCP feels Thakre tried to give an impression that Jayant Patil was joining Congress. As a result,voters turned away from NCP.

Thakre clarified,It is a fact Jayant Patil met Sonia Gandhi. I never attributed a motive to the meeting. Had NCP not dragged the name of Sonia Gandhi in its campaign,I would have avoided mentioning the meeting. They cannot blame Congress,which never crossed the laxman rekha.

Other Congress leaders said: NCP should introspect as people have rejected it for hobnobbing with Sena and BJP. They should stop blaming Congress.
