Teenager held for supplying weapons

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a Vadodara-based teenager who allegedly acts as a conduit for supplying weapons to gangs in the city.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a Vadodara-based teenager who allegedly acts as a conduit for supplying weapons to gangs in the city. They recovered four 0.32 mm factory-made pistols along with 25 rounds and an extra magazine from him.

The accused, identified as Sultan Sattar Miroshi (19),was arrested after the police received information that orders had been placed for weapons to be supplied to the city in the run up to the elections. Interestingly,Miroshi is a fourth standard dropout who used to moonlight as a tailor and a tabla player to earn some extra money, the police said.

“During the latter part of the election campaigning,Unit 2 of the Crime Branch received information that weapons were likely to be delivered to the city,as orders had been placed for them. However, probably due to the heavy security at the time, the delivery was delayed,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria.

“On Wednesday night,we received information that the delivery of weapons was going to take place outside Marathi Mandir in Mumbai Central. A trap was laid accordingly and the accused was arrested,” said Maria. As per the police,Miroshi was carrying the weapons in a school bag and had come to the city by bus from Vadodara.

“From preliminary interrogations,we have learnt that the accused works for a criminal identified as Sheikh Saheb in Vadodara. When his boss receives orders for weapons, they are procured from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. Miroshi then brings them to the city for delivery from Vadodara,” said Maria.

According to the police, the pistols recovered were to be sold at a price of Rs 1 lakh each, which could be bargained down to Rs 75,000.

Miroshi has been remanded to police custody till October 21.
