Swiggy delivery rider killed in hit-and-run accident in Mumbai; 1 detained
Swiggy delivery rider Salman Khan was on his way to Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli to deliver a food order on Wednesday night when a speeding water tanker hit his bike.

Two days after a Swiggy delivery rider who was on his way to deliver food on his bike in Mumbai was killed in a hit-and-run accident, the police detained a man on Friday, saying that he was the driver of the water tanker that hit the bike. The tanker driver had fled the scene after the accident.
The police identified the deceased Swiggy delivery rider as Salman Khan and said that the accident took place on Wednesday night. Khan’s bike got stuck to the front bumper of the tanker, following which it was dragged for a distance, the police added.
The Parksite police in Vikhroli (West) registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by Mehfooz Hashmi, Khan’s cousin brother, who was riding pillion with him when the accident took place. Hashmi, who hails from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, had come to stay with his cousins, who are all working as Swiggy riders and residing in Vikhroli.
As per the statement, Khan was on his way to Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli to deliver a food order on Wednesday night around 11 pm. Since Hashmi also wanted to purchase something to eat, he went along with Khan on his Pulsar bike.
As the duo was passing the Gandhi Nagar junction, a water tanker coming at high speed allegedly knocked down their bike. The bike got stuck to the front bumper and was dragged for some distance, Hashmi said in his statement.
As soon as the bike was pulled out, Hashmi said he called his cousins, who rushed Khan to the Mahatma Phule Hospital, where he was declared dead around 1.55 am. Following this, the local Parksite police were informed, and an FIR was registered against the unknown tanker driver.
Senior Inspector Santosh Ghatekar said that a suspect has been detained based on CCTV footage. The police are now verifying if he was at the wheel when the incident took place.
