Sanjhi, the ancient Indian art form of paper cutting,is actually more widely used as stencils to make rangolis in temples. However, the show at Artisan’s Kala Ghoda, titled “Intricate Paper Cuttings” by 63-year old artist Jaishree Pankaj, will celebrate paper cutting as an art form. She will be exhibiting nearly 50 artwork, that range from large and small frames to colourful and plain textured ones. Her themes include Hindu gods related to the Vaishnavite cult, where the art form is believed to have originated from. Some of her other work depict the haveli and jharokha style of architecture. The show is on from April 11 to 13 at the gallery.
