Spanish rape victim to depose via video link

In a case in which a Spanish woman was allegedly robbed and raped here in November 2012,a sessions court Tuesday accepted the application filed by the prosecution to examine the woman as a witness through video-conferencing.

The victim,a singer,had expressed willingness to depose as a witness through video-conferencing. However,the defence lawyer had raised objection to this,claiming it would jeopardise accused Anwar Ansari alias Badshahl Khan’s chance to access justice.

The woman was on a trip to India when she was allegedly raped and robbed at a knife-point by Ansari,a history-sheeter. Ansari was booked for rape,unnatural offences,and criminal intimidation.

While the victim has agreed to depose,her statement would be recorded in the Indian High Commission at Berlin,the prosecution said. The victim has already identified Ansari during an identification parade after his arrest.
