Sourabh outplays Paresh; double for Shubham,Senhora

Sourabh Mohite last won a men’s title way back in 2007 and it took him almost five years to win another when the 27-year-old outplayed youthful Paresh Murekar in the men’s singles final of the MHC-Mumbai City District Table Tennis Championships,hosted by Malabar Hill Club here late last night.

Sourabh,like his father Jagannath Mohite,has been a stlylish player,but to his misfortune he has been plagued by illness and injuries for long periods. This certainly has hampered his progress. Yet,he showed his fighting qualities as he made Paresh dance to his tunes by varying the pace and direction of his strokes before clinching the title-round 11-8,11-7,11-9,7-11,11-3. For juniors Senhora D’Souza,Shubham Ambre and Manasi Chiplunkar,the final day proved to be a fuitful one. All three ended with a double each. Senhora,who was in line for a triple crown,won the youth and junior girls final,but lost to Shweta Parte in the women’s final. Bespectacled Shubham,though small in built,out-hit Vitraag Mehta in the youth boys and Mudit Dani in the sub-junior boys finals. And Mulund’s Laxmibai School girl Manasi Chiplunkar proved that in her age group she is the best as she claimed the sub-junior and cadet girls titles.
