Shocking Apathy

It’s not just potholes and bad roads but also electric wires and open meters that pose hazards to commuters on city’s flyovers. For instance,at Santacruz flyover, electric meter boxes lie open with numerous wires running across. “It is difficult for those riding two-wheelers as there is a danger of getting electrocuted in the rain,” says Arul Singhvi,a commuter. BEST,the electricity supplying agency, maintains most meter boxes that lie unattended while some belong to private agencies. Both BMC and MMRDA — which are responsible for maintaining flyovers — also pay little attention to electricity wires and boxes during rain.
