Shivaji Park rally: To move SC

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena on Sunday put off its decision on whether to approach the Supreme Court to seek permission to hold an election rally in Shivaji Park.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Sunday put off its decision on whether to approach the Supreme Court to seek permission to hold an election rally in Shivaji Park. Party leaders were to decide their next course of action on Sunday but deferred it by a day and a decision is likely on Monday.

The Bombay High Court had denied them permission to hold any rally at Shivaji Park.

MNS MLA from Mahim Nitin Sardesai said they were still seeking legal opinion on the matter. “By Monday,we will be clear whether it is legally feasible take the matter to the Supreme Court with just 10 days left for the elections,” he said.

MNS president Raj Thackeray had on Friday said his party would hold rallies on the road.

“I do not care how many cases you will file against us,but now I will hold rallies on Mumbai’s streets,” he had warned. Some leaders said the party would seek permission to hold the rally on the road adjoining Shivaji park as announced.

MNS was upset after the Bombay High Court denied permission to hold the rally at Shivaji Park which has been notified as a silence zone. It was further miffed because the HC had in the past allowed Shiv Sena to hold a Dussehra Rally on the ground.
