Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday said he will not be able to accept the lunch invitation of Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, but will surely try next time while visiting Baramati.

“He (Sharad Pawar) spoke to me over telephone. Since we are going to Baramati tomorrow (March 2), he invited us for lunch. I told him that we have an extremely busy schedule of various programmes. After that, we will be going to Ahmedabad. Therefore, it won’t be possible to accept the invitation. But I will surely try to be there (at his home) next time when I visit Baramati,” said Shinde.

Asked if he thought there was any politics over the invitation, Shinde replied in the negative. “If anyone is coming to a programme near my house, I will naturally invite him to my place. It is exactly the same,” he said.

Pawar on Thursday invited Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his estranged nephew Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar for lunch at his residence Govindbaug in Baramati on Saturday. The trio is to attend the NaMo Maha Job fair organised by the Maharashtra government in Baramati.

Fadnavis too has conveyed to Pawar that he will not be able to accept the invitation due to the busy schedule.

Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar is likely to contest from Baramati Lok Sabha constituency from the ruling NDA against Sharad Pawar’s daughter and sitting MP Supriya Sule of opposition INDIA front.

Pawar in his letter said that Shinde was coming to Baramati for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. “It would be my pleasure to host you and other members of your cabinet at my house,” Pawar said.

The NaMo Maha Job Fair at Baramati is being organised by Ajit Pawar who had rebelled against Sharad Pawar and has now taken control of party name NCP and election symbol, the clock. While Pawar in his letter said he being a Rajya Sabha MP would love to attend the job fair along with Sule, sources in the government said the invitation has been extended only to Sule and not to Sharad Pawar.
