‘Sharad Pawar gave his chopper to Dawood aides when he was CM’, alleges BJP’s Vinod Tawde after ‘tadipaar’ remark on Amit Shah
BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde was replying to NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar’s comment on Amit Shah’s externment from Gujarat in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case.

Giving a strong reply to Sharad Pawar’s “tadipaar” remark against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde on Wednesday accused the NCP(SP) chief of allowing underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s accomplices to use his helicopter during his tenure as Maharashtra chief minister.
The Nationalist Congress Party (SP)’s chief spokesperson Mahesh Tapase, meanwhile, rubbished the allegation and said it showed the BJP’s desperation.
Union minister Amit Shah recently accused Pawar of “perpetuating politics of betrayal and treachery” in Maharashtra since 1978, after which the latter hit back on Tuesday saying that no other Union home minister faced externment from his state. Pawar’s comment was a reference to Shah’s two-year externment (tadipaar) from Gujarat in 2010 in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
Taking strong objection to Pawar’s remark, Tawde said, “The context in which the tadipaar order was given by the court should be viewed in the right perspective and not presented in a distorted manner.”
According to Tawde, a Gujarat court at the time ordered the then state home minister Amit Shah to keep out of the state to ensure a free and fair trial.” Later, the Supreme Court acquitted Shah “of all the charges in the Sohrabuddin encounter.”
He said, “During your (Pawar) tenure, it was said that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s accomplices travelled in your helicopter,” adding, “When you were the Maharashtra CM, the perception was that Mumbai was being run by Dawood.”
Shah’s externment was not for any dacoity or crime, Tawde emphasised. He said that when Shah accused Pawar of initiating politics of betrayal, he was only “stating facts”. Tawde added that a seasoned leader like Pawar should learn to take the criticism sportingly and not counter it with distorted facts.
Responding to Tawde’s statements, NCP(SP)’s Mahesh Tapase said, “This statement is so ridiculous even by the standards of the BJP which spreads fake narratives and falsehood to win elections. Bringing out issues which are already settled and that too by a party which is in power for so many years…shows the desperation of the ruling party.”
“Has anyone stopped the BJP, which is in power at the Centre, from conducting an investigation into this issue all these years? It seems the BJP is hurt by Pawar saheb’s attack on Amit Shah and is making attempts to criticise Pawar saheb,” he said.
