Shaikh fires hat-trick

Opportunistic striker Faizan Shaikh,was in his elements as he fired in a superb hat-trick to power West Zone United to an emphatic 7-0 win against Anjuman Islam in a lopsided Division-III match of the Mumbai District Football Association’s League 2011-12,and played at the St Xavier’s ground,Parel,on Sunday.

Opportunistic striker Faizan Shaikh,was in his elements as he fired in a superb hat-trick to power West Zone United to an emphatic 7-0 win against Anjuman Islam in a lopsided Division-III match of the Mumbai District Football Association’s (MDFA) League 2011-12,and played at the St Xavier’s ground,Parel,on Sunday.

WZ United were well equipped in every department and faced little opposition from their rivals as they went on to hit the target at regular intervals. Anjuman Islam showing a lack of experience found the going tough and were unable to restrict the marauding United attackers.

Shaikh was well supported by Sherwin Soares who netted a brace and a goal each from the efforts of Adnan Khan and Zaheer Ansari completed the misery of the hapless Anjuman outfit.

FC Prodigy had to work hard for the solitary goal win over Aristocrat FC in another match. Shahad A Kulkarni got the only goal of the match.

Omkar Sawant’s lone strike ensured that central Railway Matunga Institute scored an identical 1-0 win against a spirited Sunday Boy’s Under-19 in another match of the same division.

Later,Atlanta FC and Stallion SC,Andheri shared honours in a goalless draw.

Earlier in the day,Arun Mehra’s late strike enabled Bombay Gymkhana Colts to snatch a lucky 1-0 win over Hugh Fernandes Academy (HFA) in a well-contested match.

The match contested between the youngsters from Bombay Gymkhana and the Academy side,witnessed both side adopt an attacking approach which resulted in a grim battle for supremacy. But,just as the match seemed to be heading for a goalless stalemate,striker Arun Mehra fired home the lone winning goal in the final minute of the match,much to the dismay of the Academy lads.

In another closely fought encounter,Miracles SC got the better of Sacred Heart by a narrow 2-1 margin. Manish Pillai and Sachin Poojary were on target for the winners,while Terrence Fernandes pulled one back for the losing side.

Maitri Youngsters proved too strong for Koli Samaj as they romped to a convincing 5-0 victory in another match of the same division. Allan Kurien played a stellar role in the bog win as scored three goals,while Aditya Shridhar and Aditya Mehta contributed one goal each towards the team’s emphatic win.
