With the civic polls due in early 2012,Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said the party was standing in solidarity with workers from the defunct textile mills in Mumbai,who are demanding housing and added that they would announce their stand on the issue at the partys annual Dussehra rally.
He was speaking on Sunday after meeting mill workers who congregated at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Mantralaya to press for their demands.
Uddhav warned that the Shiv Sena would take to the streets in case Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan did not take measures to solve the issue.
Meanwhile,Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar admitted that the issue was pending for a long time and stressed that a solution in this regard needed to be evolved soon.
I admit that the issue has been pending for many years and hence all of us feel it must be solved soon. There can be no two opinion that a solution must be evolved soon, said Pawar.
Chavan said distribution of finished houses meant for these workers was an important issue at hand.
He added that a meeting with union representatives and leaders of political parties in the state legislature would be held on Tuesday after which the government would proceed further.
