Security tightened in Mumbai after terror alert

The Mumbai Police provided additional cover to sensitive locations in the city apart from temples that witness high footfall every day.

Security wAS tightened across the city on Monday in the wake of a terror alert sounded by the Central government on Sunday.

The Mumbai Police provided additional cover to sensitive locations in the city apart from temples that witness high footfall every day.

“We have increased security at vital installations in the city as no specific target has been mentioned in the alert. Patrolling has been increased at hotels and other places,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The alert provided by Pakistan’s National Security Adviser to the Indian counterpart warns that ten terrorists have infiltrated into India through Gujarat. The alert warns of a terror attack on the festival of Mahashivratri.

A high alert has been accordingly declared in several cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhopal, Vijaywada Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Panaji.

The Maharashtra government also conducted a high level meeting on Sunday to discuss security measures in the state. “We have also put nakabandis in place to conduct regular checks of vehicles,” said Kulkarni.
