Sangoi murder: cops release suspect’s sketch

“We have spoken to several people as part of our investigation and on the basis of their description we have prepared this sketch. According to our investigation till date,we suspect that the murder was committed by one person and not a gang. The suspect is aged between 25 and 30. We are not sure if the man has committed the murder,he is a suspect in the case right now,” said police sub-inspector Shashikant Yadav who is investigating the case.

The police have shown the sketch to Sangoi’s family as well as other relatives and the four servants at the senior citizen’s house. “All those who have seen the sketch have claimed that they do not know the man. Hence we decided to seek help from the public,” said Yadav.

The officials have recorded the statements of Sangoi’s two US-based sons who flew in for the funeral and also spoke to the four servants at Sangoi’s house. According to a police official,the victim who used to run a small-scale self-help group also lent small sums of money to the needy. The official stated that they were exploring the possibility that one of the loan-takers may have visited her.

According to a relative,Sangoi’s servant would come to wash vessels at night,and had come at 8 on the night before the incident. The servant saw Sangoi talking to a man who left by the time the servant finished her work,the relative said.

Police teams were also dispatched to Kutch in Gujarat to probe whether there was any dispute surrounding the victim’s land there. However,the team returned without unearthing any major clues.
