The Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone providing information about the Versova cat killings. Residents of Kapaswadi area of Versova had claimed to have spotted people carrying gunny bags to catch cats. The federation said besides being a case of cruelty towards animals, the issue also assumes significance as research has shown that animal killers may tend to harm human beings also,if not corrected. Animal activist Aban Mistry had recently filed a complaint, quoting a resident, with the DN Nagar police against one Swami and his accomplice for catching and killing a cat. The police had even formed a team to nab the culprits. The federation said it decided to announce a reward as no arrests had been made so far. .It is an alarming trend as research has shown that those who attack animals have a high probability of perpetrating crimes against humans,if not corrected. Our point is that incidents like these are an early warning system and if such people are convicted and helped, such incidents can be avoided in future convenor Arpan Sharma said. He said the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) uses reports of cruelty towards animals in analysing the threat potential of suspected and known criminals.
