The words of the famous Pakistani poet,Faiz Ahmed Faiz, have influenced Urdu poetry and drama for the past 60 years. Fittingly, the ongoing Urdu Drama Festival, this year, pays tribute to the master through a series of plays based on his life and works. The Urdu Drama Festival is being held as part of the yearly festival organised by Urdu Academy. The festival opened on Monday with Chand Roz Aur Meri Jaan, based on the letters exchanged between Faiz and his wife,Alys. City-based Pierrot’s Troupe takes a close look at the poet’s life in the play Jo Dil Pe Guzarti Hai,to be staged today. The play, directed by M Sayeed Alam,is a monologue featuring Eekant Kaul as a young Faiz. Jo Dil Pe Guzarti Hai is a line from one of Faiz’s

poems,as is Kuchh Ishq kiya Kuchh Kaam, the name of another play to be staged during the festival. Coming up on Friday,Kuchh Ishq kiya Kuchh Kaam,is director KK Kohli’s ode to the poet through references of his romantic poems.

The festival is being held at Shri Ram Center for Performing Arts,4,Safdar Hashmi Marg,Mandi House. Contact: 9891535053
