Rehman strikes five in Mumbai’s facile win

Hosts Mumbai continued their domineering display as they registered another authoritative victory by outplaying Dadra & Nagar Haveli 14-2 in a Pool-B round-robin league match of the West Zone leg of the IHF conducted Senior National Hockey Championship,played at the MHA Stadium on Tuesday.

Hosts Mumbai continued their domineering display as they registered another authoritative victory by outplaying Dadra & Nagar Haveli 14-2 in a Pool-B round-robin league match of the West Zone leg of the IHF conducted Senior National Hockey Championship,played at the MHA Stadium on Tuesday.

This was the second successive win for Mumbai,who had defeated Goa 18-1 in the previous match.

The reigning national champions,Mumbai combined well as a unit and did not encounter much resistance from their opponents. Like in their previous match,Mumbai once against maintained a sustained attack on the rival citadel and found the target at regular intervals.

The hero of Mumbai’s emphatic win was centre forward Osaf ur Rehman,who scored five goals including a superb hat-trick to knock the fight out of the visitors. He showed his brilliance when he struck three quick goals in as many minutes on the hour mark.

The others who contributed towards Mumbai win was Laxman Rao,Jayesh Jadhav,Victo Singh and Irshad Mirza,all scoring two goals each and one by Devinder Walmiki to complete the tally. Rajendra Yadav scored both the goals for Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

Later in the evening,Gujarat got the better of Goa by a 2-1 margin. Dhaval Mohite and Upen Parmar were on target for Gujarat,while Goa captain Dattesh Priolkar reduced the margin.

In Wednesday’s matches,Maharashtra meet Goa in the first match and Gujarat take on Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

Mumbai 14 (Osaf ur Rehman 5,Laxman Rao 2,Jayesh Jadhav 2,Victo Singh 2,Irshad Mirza 2,Devinder Walmiki) beat Dadra & Nagar Haveli 2 (Rajendra Yadav). Gujarat 2 (Dhaval Mohite,Upen Parmar) beat Goa 1 (Dattesh Priolkar).
